Experience Colorado’s heritage by trying your hand at panning for gold in the South Platte River near Carson Nature Center, behind Aspen Grove Shopping Center. South Suburban Parks and Recreation naturalists will provide the expertise and equipment for families and individuals to search for gold – you get to take home all the gold you find! Water shoes recommended; bare feet are no permitted in the river.
A FREE drop-in event – part of the “Stampede! for Open Space”.
“We find about the same amount of gold found by the early prospectors who started the Gold Rush — a flake or two in almost every pan,” said Skot Latona, Supervisor of South Platte Park. Everyone is welcome to keep whatever gold they find. This is a unique opportunity for people to connect to the community and find out what life was like in the South Platte River Valley 150 years ago.
Donations accepted to help protect open space.
